Rise

Rise of the Butterfly has arrived. More than an art show, we are working with a number of pioneers from the women’s movement and human rights campaigns, studying those in displacement and enslavement.

Curated by Anthony Haden-Guest with Introduction to the Collection by Gloria Steinem, the Rise of the Butterfly Art Show confronts Human Trafficking on a global scale by merging fine art with the humanitarian goal of freeing captive people. At Rise of the Butterfly, we believe art has the power to fuel freedom and awareness — and we have the unique opportunity to demonstrate why each life is precious.

The Rise of the Butterfly Art Show mirrors the philosophy and life’s mission of the internationally acclaimed photographer Layla Love, who will be exhibiting a collection of 70 artworks across seven walls in a two-story , each curated with a specific theme, print style and framing method. Viewers will feel that they are experiencing seven different perspectives. The artist’s intention is to show the multitude of potentials harbored within every being, and that life is to be celebrated through transformation.

Love’s artwork has been showcased around the world from Paris Photo to Art Basel, and the upcoming collection is derived from several world tours showcasing Love’s work from South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the United States. Our supporting shows include: Big Art, a NYC group show by Anthony Haden-Guest; a Rise of the Butterfly event in Houston Texas hosted by mayor Sylvester Turner and Curry Glassell; and in Los Angeles. After the event, shows are scheduled to follow up in major international cities.

The styles will span traditional fiber-based darkroom prints hand-produced by Love, to Virtual Reality Composites with holographic qualities. Ideally these works will be displayed in different rooms that are interlocking; otherwise a multitude of walls will suffice in illustrating the multiple perspectives that diversify our life experience. We are operating on the premise that art loses its ego when paired with purpose.

The concept of Rise of the Butterfly came about in Gloria Steinem’s living room during a brainstorming session discussing ways to utilize Gloria’s words and Love’s visual art to bring awareness to the value of women into the mainstream. With Gloria’s support, Love has since spent several years building the Rise of the Butterfly foundation to provide support to already-existing nonprofits that we respect. All proceeds from the Rise of the Butterfly Art Show will support our ongoing efforts and benefit these pioneering nonprofits, providing both financial and creative support as well as launching awareness campaigns to amplify their voices.”
