Paintings by OWEN GRAY

Blue Mountain Gallery
250 West 25th St, 4th Floor New York 10001

April 26th – May 21st
Opening Reception: April 28th

World of Darkness, World of Light is Gray’s 10th solo show at the Blue Mountain Gallery, which he has been a member of since 1992. Praised by critic Jed Perl of the New Republic for his “deft, fleet, subtly virtuosic brushwork that articulates shape and spirit with confidence and ease,” Gray presents the viewer two worlds in these paintings. The first one looks up into a vast, rich darkness that encompasses fantastical flying creatures lit brightly from below. In the second world, the world of light, there is an emphasis on the vast sunlit world, where the open blue sky is inhabited by a dazzling array of winged creatures twirling and whirling every which way or down into the an aquatic netherworld where birds, insects, musical instruments and overturned boats inhabit a lush mysterious environment of dense vegetation.

Over the last 30 years, Blue Mountain Gallery has provided artists a gathering place of ideas where painters can communicate visually and verbally and find the support and inspiration of their peers. The Gallery’s longevity in the ever-changing and chaotic world of New York galleries is witness to its value and to the loyal dedication of its members. Blue Mountain Gallery is located in the Chelsea district of Manhattan on 25th street between 10th and 11th avenues. Via New York City Subway, Blue Mountain Gallery is reachable by the C/E trains or 1 train at 23rd street. See more work by Owen Gray at his website
