Birnam Wood Galleries presents a group exhibition exploring the remarkable range of works done solely in black and white. The show, titled Shadow and Line: Harmony in Black and White, will run from November 5 through December 21, 2013 at Birnam Wood’s Chelsea location in New York. There will be an opening reception for the show on Thursday, November 7 from 6-8pm.

Included in the exhibition are works by four contemporary artists represented by Birnam Wood Galleries, including Katherine Ryan Roth, Margaret Garrett, Alexis Portilla and Aurelia Wasser, along with a large-scale painting by Richard Pousette-Dart, an intimate drawing by Agnes Martin, a collage by Conrad Marca-Relli , and a silkscreen by Andy Warhol.

The show will explore the inexhaustible range of visual imagery found in the most refined of palettes. In paintings, drawings, collage – even sculpture, these artists probe the limits of monochromatic statement, often taking the rich and varied hues of black and white to virtuosity.

BIrnam Wood Galleries is located at 514 West 24th Street in New York. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10-6pm. The gallery website is www.birnamwoodart.com .
