John Azelvandre presents a solo exhibition of his paintings at the New York offices of Thoughtworks, a software consulting firm with offices worldwide.  The show will be up from June 21 through August 29, and the opening reception will be on Thursday, June 27 from 6 to 8 pm.

In this exhibition John presents a selection of his work dating from 2010 to the present, including several new pieces never before exhibited.  Featured are abstracted landscapes and tree portraits influenced by musings on city living, nature and the meaning of it all. Also included is one painting from his “Calamus” series — paintings inspired by the poetry of Walt Whitman.

Thoughtworks
is located at 99 Madison Avenue, near 29th Street, on the 15th floor, in Manhattan.

A.I. Friedman and SOL REPUBLIC are pleased to present Alessandra DeLaCruz and Sarah H Reynolds: SOUND+IMAGE, an interactive exhibition featuring the work of two Bushwick-based artists against the backdrop of a unique auditory environment at The Lounge @ WeWork, at 173 Lafayette Street, NYC.
OPENING NIGHT | WED. JUNE 26th 7-10pm

In their first joint exhibition, DeLaCruz and Reynolds explore the impact of music on visual art by pairing each work on view with a personal listening station outfitted with SOL REPUBLIC headphones. Inspired by an artist-mentor, this idea came about when Reynolds decided to listen to a single genre of music while making artwork, establishing an ongoing investigation of the relationship between sound and visual art. Expanding the scope of the project and collaborating with DeLaCruz, the two artists curated a selection of contemporary music to listen to while creating a single artwork that blends the opposing styles of each artist. Videographer Ashley Maas captures this process in a time-lapsed music video featuring a track by Neon Knights produced as a response to the work.

Solid Pull at TSA
Curated by Caroline Santa and Rachael Gorchov

June 28 – August 4, 2013

Please ring bell to enter during normal hours.

Featuring works by Annie Attridge, James Hyde, Joanne Greenbaum, Jane Irish, Essye Klempner and Heidi Lau.

Solid Pull is an exhibition of contemporary ceramics whose entry point is the practice of painting. Much like paint, clay is an immediate and flexible medium – it allows artists to realize their vision in a visceral, tactile manner. Clay can function as “all paint and no support” – the dimensionality of the medium allows for a form of searching that isn’t present in two-dimensional media. The consummation of the maker and the material through the physical building of layers is spatial image-making at its most fundamental.

The work in this exhibition is whimsical, sensual, sculptural, textural and immersive. It references the history of ceramics in its physical qualities and/or function, and invites contemplation on the occasional disjuncture between the approach of a crafter and a fine artist.

TSA is an artist-run, artist-curated exhibition space located at 44 Stewart Ave, #49 in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Formed with a relationship to Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Philadelphia, PA, TSA seeks to invite a dialogue between an eclectic mix of artists and curatorial visions with a focus on emerging artists from New York and beyond.
