Join artist John Tebeau at Two Boots (514 2nd St. at 7th Ave.) in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood on Thursday June 13, 5-8 p.m. for some mighty fine eats, lively New Orleans art, NOLA-worthy drink specials and suh-WEEEET boogie-woogie piano from Judd Nielsen and Smokin’ Billy Slater.
He’ll have a bunch of original paintings and drawings on the walls, Piper and Andy from Two Boots will roll out some Cajun and Creole treats (on the house), and Judd and Billy will set yer toes a-tappin. Unless you’re dead. This is superb, life-affirming music, folks. Only the dead can resist the boogie-woogie.

Kris Graves: “Discovered Missing” at Pocket Utopia
A Solo Exhibition of Photographs from Iceland and a special project by Libby Hartle

For the past three years, Graves has focused his camera directly on Iceland and its isolation and independence.  Iceland is alone in a cold sea, sparsely populated; its volcanic visage is harsh and unrelenting.  Discovering, via one (mostly) drivable road, and finding what’s missing from the known story, Graves shows us this Iceland. Pocket Utopia also presents a special project by Libby Hartle titled, “A Summer Group Show,” that features a site-specific installation of sculptures, drawings and ephemera that will change and be rearranged throughout the length of the exhibition.

Masters & Pelavin is pleased to present Through the Thicket of Things, the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. In a series of abstract collages, Gaeta uses graph paper as her primary medium and main source of inspiration. Although her geometric constructions are painstakingly hand-cut, carefully layered and precisely ordered within their rectangular formats, the overall compositions have an intriguing energy, depth, and visual complexity.

Museum Mile Festival
Now celebrating its 35th year, the annual Museum Mile Festival takes place rain or shine on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Festival attendees can walk the Mile between 82nd Street and 105th Street while visiting nine of New York City’s finest cultural institutions, which are open free to the public throughout the evening.  Visitors can also walk to 110th Street where they will be greeted by music and outdoor art activities at the site of Museum Mile’s newest museum, the Museum for African Art.  Several other participating museums will also offer outdoor art activities for children.

Northside Art @ Williamsburg Walks  June 15th 3-8pm (N8th- N9th Bedford Ave)
Northside Festival is NYC’s largest and most accessible discovery festival. Hundreds of bands, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, innovators, and over 80,000 fans converge on Brooklyn over eight days to witness the most incredible showcase of “what’s next in music, film, entrepreneurship, and art.
This year Northside Festival will be incorporating art into the festival lineup by taking over the block of Bedford Ave from N8th-N9th Street in conjunction with Williamsburg Walks.
Temporary wall units, interactive installations and sculptures will be staggered throughout the block for live painting performances, graffiti and other participation oriented works. In addition to the installation there will be a variety of related activities to engage in and pop up parks.
Highlights for this year’s event include:
Cumulus (Occurrent Art/ Diagonalist) What would a cloud sound like? Hear the cumulus noise of cumulative touch…it’s the new sound cloud.
Diving Bell (Hannah Simmons) An installation created from knitted newspapers, gathered in Queens and representing stories in the multiple languages of a diverse community. Diving Bell presents a unique opportunity for viewers to enter into and be surrounded by printed text. The text thus occupies and creates a physical space, while quietly filtering the smells and sights of the participant’s surrounding environment.
