Tara Fracalossi: As in A Drop of Water

Exhibition  28 February – 13 April  2013

The new exhibition at Masters & Pelavin is comprised of over 8000 individual prints, which have been meticulously color corrected, printed, trimmed and mounted to form site specific wall installations and photographic collage works. Each individual work, and even the exhibition as a whole, has been created through repetition and randomness. The artist’s editing process and curation was defined by her predetermined workflow. In this series, she randomly printed 35 copies of a single image from each of the 228 categories in her digital archive: “Accidents,” “Clocks,” “Farms,” “Paths,” etc. The prints were then organized alphabetically and grouped into sets comprised of images from six categories that are mounted together to create a single work: “Arches – Balloons,” “Kiddie Rides – Lighthouses,” “Waves – Zippers.” Thirty eight photographic collages, each made up of 210 smaller images, are mounted to 14 x 22.5 inch aluminum panels that are exhibited in alphabetically organized grids throughout the gallery. The artist’s wall installations make use of larger individual prints that follow the same guidelines as her collage; yet, cover large areas of the galleries walls in more organically organized grids.
