Porter Contemporary is pleased to announce Desiring Uncertainty, a solo exhibition of works by Jee Hwang from February 23 through March 31, 2012 with an opening reception with the artist on February 23rd from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

The bath tub symbolizing the human form, empty or full, is the universal theme of Desiring Uncertainty. When asked about this new body of work Jee Hwang states, “Given that we are not so different than a child, life becomes a bottomless hole, abyss or a void. Along with perpetuity of the desire, desires are temperamental, capricious and comparative by each person in each situation. Sometimes we don’t know what we actually want, but we feel something is missing. Like so, desire is uncertain and abstract as well as unstable”.

Jee’s work spans from large scale oil paintings to small intimate watercolors and works on paper. Jee likes to begin each new body of work around a single concept and this time is no different. She was inspired by the image of an antique bath tub and searched and searched until she found the right one to use to begin the new series of works. Like her works in general, the symbol will be used in various ways to explore her inner self and reflect back our own nature.
