June 21, 2011 – August 6, 2011

OPENING RECEPTION: Thursday, June 23, 2011, 6:00-8:00 pm

Mutable and mysterious, grey can signify both a presence and an absence in painting. It is the middle ground of our perceptual value scale and lends itself to a variety of usages and interpretations. The relationship artists have to grey in their work can reveal a lot about their sensibilities, intent and background. “Grey Matter” explores the nuances of these differences by considering grey as both a color and an idea in creativity. In a timely fashion, the nature of some of the works exhibited remark on cultural and economic downturn – perhaps intentionally away from more vivid hues.
